Peter Fender: Conductor
Peter Fender: Conductor

Peter Fender is one of today's most passionate and innovative British conductors. He studied in London and is currently musical director of the Angel Orchestra, South London Sinfonietta, Camden Philharmonia and the Six Centuries Chamber Choir. He founded Philharmonia Britannica in 2007, particularly keen to mix music with other art forms (such as acting, poetry, dance, comedy or video). Aside from his native England he has also conducted professional, amateur and youth orchestras in Austria, Bulgaria, Italy and Romania.

Peter is a passionate advocate of British music, and has brought to the concert hall a number of pieces by the neglected English composer George Lloyd. These have included the world première of his 'Pont du Gard', and the English première of his cello concerto. He is also working to encourage the performance of music by women composers, much of which has been unjustly neglected. To this end he has edited works by composers such as Ethel Smyth and Imogen Holst. Peter also leads conducting workshops and masterclasses in London, including days to introduce conducting to non-musicians.

Peter oringally trained as a violinist, and has performed as violinist, baroque violinist and violist all over the world. He has directed many concerts from the violin. He has performed a number of concertos, most recently Mendelssohn's Concerto in E minor.

An active composer, writing orchestral, choral, and chamber music, Peter has released three recordings - one of his orchestral compositions entitled 'Speechless', one of chamber compositsions called 'Loquacious' and one of music for the video game 'The Watchers'.
